Diet Tips To Disregard

empty plateThe internet and magazines are full of diet tips to the point of overflowing. It is quite a challenge to separate the true tips from the misleading ones, to know what is useful and what is useless. What we’ll do in this post is go over some of the common misleading tips so you won’t fall for them as you try to lose weight. Ready? Here we go.

Don’t Eat Fat

You don’t just want to lose weight. You want to lose fat. This is what’s really troubling you. It’s not just the pounds. It’s the flab. You want to get rid of the excess fat, so the logical step is to stop eating it. It makes perfect sense which is why this is such a pervasive myth.
The truth is that you absolutely must eat fat. It’s one of the three major nutrients your body needs alongside carbs and protein. If you don’t eat fat for too long you may harm your health. Athletes, models, and bodybuilders all include fat in their diet. They choose the right sort of fat to eat and they moderate their intake of it, but they don’t avoid it totally.

Skip Meals

Skipping meals is supposed to help you reduce your calorie intake. For some it may work, but it’s not a hard rule. For some of us, skipping meals can be a big mistake. I, for one, benefit from regular meal times and frequent eating. It’s the way in which I control my hunger, reduce craving, and make sure I get all the nutrients I need. I don’t like skipping meals as it breaks my routine and makes me too hungry. Others feel similarly about it.
The truth is that there is no real use in skipping meals. If it works for you, great. If it doesn’t, avoid it. It is not required in order to lose weight.

Cut Your Calories Dramatically

Weight loss is about your calories. You burn more than you take in and you will lose weight. Simple. This is why so many people try to cut down their calories dramatically by using one fad diet or another.
The risk in such low-calorie diets is that you may end up with a slower metabolism, one which makes further weight loss much harder to sustain. Your body, when you cut calories too low for too long, reacts by lowering the amount of calories it naturally burns. This means that you need to cut your calories even further to lose weight. It can become very difficult. It’s better to cut your calories moderately and to increase your activity level to burn more of them. It’s better, safer, and works every time.

Avoid Bread

Bread is considered the enemy of weight loss by many people. It’s like there’s a picture of a loaf of bread in the post office and its on the top of the 10 Most Wanted List. This is an exaggerated fear. Bread, in general, is not the arch-villain that people make it out to be. Some bread is health and some isn’t. Some is fattening and some isn’t. Often, it is what you put on the bread which is the problem, not the bread itself.
I am a big fan of rice bread, for instance. There’s nothing wrong with it. I choose what I put on it carefully. Sesame spreads or organic peanut butter. You can’t go wrong with such things.

Cut Out Juice

I have to admit that I prefer fruit shakes to juices. When you prepare juice you usually leave a lot of the good stuff out when you squeeze the fruit. I like every bit of it. However, juices, especially if they’re freshly squeezed with nothing added to them, are not fattening or unhealthy. Again, I would do a shake or eat the fruit in its natural form, but I wouldn’t run for the hills if someone offered me a glass of OJ.
